Pine nuts (also known as pignoli) are edible seeds found in pine trees. The inner, usually edible part of a hard, inedible nut casing is called a seed. Because of the time required to grow the nuts and the effort required to harvest the seeds from their protective encasement, pine nuts are one of the more expensive nuts on the market.
